Shoppers spend £1.10 a week on underwear

Women in the UK have reduced the amount of money they spend on underwear by 20p a week, new figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown.

This amounts to £1.10 a week, or around £57 a year, the organisation points out.

However, the average family has to spend £51.80 on housing, fuel and power, £48.10 on food and non-alcoholic drinks and £28.80 on personal transport every week.

The news comes as the high street suffers one of its worst run-ups to Christmas seen in recent times.

However, all is not lost. If you’ve been saving up your £1.10 diligently, why not pay a visit to lingerieplease.com to treat yourself in time for the festive season.

Even better, there’s currently £5 off a number of bras in the Wonderbra range, which is perfect for credit-crunching shoppers.

The site also stocks Trinny and Susannah’s Bum, Tum & Thigh Reducers, which are currently selling in their thousands as ladies plan to tuck in their lumpy bits ready for their party frocks, high street retailers have said.

They come highly recommended by Hilary Alexander, fashion director for the Telegraph, who said that women should avoid the VPL (visible panty line) at all costs, stating: “Going out with one is a total fashion disaster; you are virtually a social pariah.”
