Dark lingerie ‘in’ for bridalwear

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Anyone looking forward to their wedding day may wish to take some extra time to plan their bridal lingerie after the predictions of some experts.

In an article for the Indian newspaper Daily News and Analysis, Dalbir Bains from Boudoir London and Varsha Bhawnani, wardrobe consultant at Vinegar, have highlighted some trends that they think will be big in the world of wedding underwear for the coming months.

Firstly and most importantly, the lingerie must act to support the dress and should be as soft as possible in order to avoid discomfort at the altar.

Ms Bains advises forthcoming brides to opt for silks and satins in jewel colours like purple, blue and red.

However, she adds that graphic floral patterns and animal prints are also tipped to be trendy this season.

Meanwhile, Ms Bhawnani recommends red and black for a sensual appearance, as well as embellishments.

“Sequins, crystal beading, pearl buttons on lace, silk on sheer lingerie are going to become a rage,” she commented.

However, anyone with a light coloured dress may wish to opt for more traditional lingerie if they wish to avoid it showing up on the wedding photos!

Why not plump for the Masquerade Hestia Basque or the Balconette from the same range, both from Panache and available at lingerieplease.co.uk.

Celine Dion shows us her pants

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Another week, another celebrity’s knickers on show.

This time, it’s Celine Dion’s turn to curse the photographer who captured her performing a strange high-kick manoeuvre that revealed her pants in glorious technicolour.

Or not as the case may be. Given the propensity of many celebrities to go without, many might say it was lucky that the 40-year-old was wearing any underwear at all, but she has now been criticised for teaming a very glamorous dress with some not quite so glamorous knickers.

Photographs on the website of the Inquisitor show the My Heart Will Go On diva performing at a concert in Mexico City, where the crowd were clearly so good that she got carried away and pulled some moves more fitting for a Pussycat Doll.

Under Dion’s beautiful, strapless, pink sequinned dress were not boy shorts or briefs, but large beige granny pants that even Bridget Jones might be ashamed of.

However, perhaps we can let La Dion off on this occasion, since she has been ill with a naso-pharyngeal infection that forced the cancellation of several North American gigs recently.

Next time though, we’d advise her to invest in some better knickers if she intends to perform on-stage aerobics.

Sports bra warning after Snowdon’s bra-less boogie

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Although she may be wowing audiences with her dance moves on Strictly, model Lisa Snowdon may wish to consider a little more support in the chest department.

Having made it through to the semi-final of the show with her jive, many people have noticed that she was not wearing a bra underneath her sequinned silver dress at the weekend.

Now, researchers from the Shock Absorbers Sports Institute at Portsmouth University have carried out research into how she may be damaging her cleavage by doing so, the Daily Mail reports.

They discovered that during the dance, her breasts moved some 221 metres, potentially putting pressure on the ligaments and soft tissue.

Furthermore, 9.5 million British women who do not wear the appropriate support could also be at risk.

Julia Nolan, spokesperson for the institute, urged women to wear a good sports bra, since this will reduce ‘boob bounce’ by 74 per cent.

“A good sports bra is as essential to aspiring jivers as fabulous dresses and your dancing shoes,” she concluded.

The Active Underwired Sports Bra from Freya offers good support for high-impact exercise, while lower impact exercisers could consider the Tri-Action Workout Bra from Triumph.

A lingerie free-for-all

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Commuters driving to work in Honolulu on Monday (December 8th) got more than they bargained for when they ended up driving through hundreds of bras and knickers.

According to the local TV station KITV, thieves had stolen eight boxes of lingerie from a local department store and had made off with their loot down the H1 Freeway.

However, they seem to have spilt some in their haste to get away, which resulted in a light covering of underwear for the road.

“It looked as if it rained lingerie all over the freeway. Bras in different colours and sizes and pants in every style covered a quarter-mile stretch,” a reporter for the station attested.

The local authorities are investigating the incident, but it seems some commuters may have managed to get some free Christmas presents for their loved ones in the meantime!

For anyone not lucky enough to see it raining lingerie on their morning drive to work, there is plenty of beautiful underwear available at a reasonable price on lingerieplease.co.uk.

Shoppers can currently save £5 on Wonderbra products, as well as up to 50 per cent on selected other items.

Buy underwear, save the economy…

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

With much of the news in recent months dominated by the credit crunch, you’d be forgiven for feeling as though you daren’t buy anything for fear of imminent bankruptcy.

However, Emma Pinch of the Liverpool Post argues, Christmas is a valuable excuse to banish the global economic downturn from our respective dictionaries and return to the luxuries in life – lingerie.

“Happily we can (or drop strong hints to others that they should) buy lingerie with a clear conscience,” the writer comments, adding that the more underwear we put on, the less we will have to pay on heating or homes – so we’re saving the planet, too.

Last month, Annette Warburton, head of lingerie at Debenhams, told the Telegraph that sales of slimming knickers have soared as people begin to think about their Christmas party rigouts.

However, with a poll carried out by the British Chiropractic Association finding that 77 per cent of women are walking around in the wrong size bra, perhaps we need to get back to basics when it comes to our underwear – why not find out what size you are, then drop hints to your significant other in time for Christmas?

He can then use the men’s guide to lingerie on lingerieplease.co.uk to choose the ideal gift in the right size – all while helping Britain.

Pammy exhibits her underwear

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Most people would consider trousers or a skirt appropriate attire for visiting an art exhibition.

But then again, Pamela Anderson isn’t most people.

The former Baywatch actress, 41, turned up at the trendy Art Basel exhibition in Miami – seen as one of the most important exposes in the US – wearing nothing on her bottom half but a pair of orange and black knickers and pink heels.

She then made an exhibition of herself as she posed seductively for the photographers.

However, Anderson seemed slightly over-attired on her top half, wearing a striped, woolly beanie hat with her off-the-shoulder grey t-shirt.

She was joined at the show by fellow shy and retiring celebrity Paris Hilton, who was sporting a woolly jumper with sunglasses and who posed for photographs hugging Anderson.

While we wouldn’t advise going out in only your underwear, you will be able to find lingerie worth showing off on lingerieplease.co.uk.

There is currently a great offer on Panache‘s aubergine-coloured bras and knickers, as well as its Anastacia bras, which are reduced by 50 per cent.

In addition, there’s also a range of everyday knickers and shorts for those who like to keep their underwear under wraps.

Frost’s showing her knickers again

Friday, December 5th, 2008

We’re getting quite used to seeing Sadie Frost’s underwear of late.

Hot on the heels of her dropping her knickers at the British Fashion Awards show last month (she wasn’t wearing them at the time, we hasten to add), the fashion designer has posed in a series of pictures in her pants for a photography exhibition.

Joined by fellow fashionista Jemima French, Jude Law’s ex can be seen in stockings and polka-dot knickers in her portraits for London artist the Mofo.

Commenting on the exhibition, which will be held on Curtain Road in London this weekend and also features model Portia Freemen, the Mofo said on his blog that it is “a private collection of photographs of woman I’ve been lucky enough to photograph over the last few years”.

Meanwhile, supermodel Naomi Campbell has also been spotted in her underwear by the Daily Mail.

Currently on holiday in Florida with her Russian boyfriend, she was spotted in a white top and skirt combo, before stripping down to only her nude-coloured knickers to relax in the hot sunshine.

Anyone on the lookout for similar styles to Frost and Campbell could pay a visit to lingerieplease.co.uk.

The site has an array of everyday knickers, as well as nude shapewear by the top manufacturer Spanx.

Geri Halliwell suffers underwear malfunction

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

It’s one of those moments when you wish the ground would just open up and swallow you.

Poor Geri Halliwell will know exactly what we mean after a rather embarrassing incident on the red carpet the other day.

The former Spice Girl and now successful children’s novelist was attending the children’s Baftas in London when a stray gust of wind came along and blew up the top layer of her frilly red frock.

This wouldn’t have been so bad, had the layer underneath not been see-through, allowing all and sundry to see her – admittedly very toned – bottom and red thong.

Still, the gutsy 36-year-old managed to put the incident behind her – sorry – and continued to mingle with the other guests, including Rachel Stevens and Keith Chegwin.

Perhaps Geri may have been better off wearing tights or a slip – anyone else who has a dress they fear may be prone to misbehaving could visit lingerieplease.co.uk to check out suitable hosiery.

The site has a large range from designer tights brand Jonathan Aston, as well as patterned and bright hosiery from Pamela Mann.

There’s also next day delivery for anyone needing their items in a hurry for a function in the coming days.

Aniston ‘really loves her underwear’

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Actress Jennifer Aniston lovers her underwear so much that she doesn’t bother to cover it up when she’s at home – even if there are other people around.

This is according to one indiscreet former bodyguard of Aniston, who is quoted by Entertainmentwise as telling Star magazine that she mostly walks around “half-naked”.

“When she answers the door in the morning, she’s wearing a mini camisole and underwear. She never covers up. Everyone is used to that. That’s just Jen,” the source is reported to have said.

He continued that when Jen is not in her underwear, she is in a bikini.

Lucky for her she lives in balmy Hollywood then, we say! Perhaps she would stick to cardigans and fleeces if she had to put up with the snow that most of the UK is currently getting…

Anyone on the lookout for underwear worthy of Hollywood actresses should pay a visit to lingerieplease.co.uk, which has a range of styles from brands like Charnos, Wonderbra and Triumph.

In addition, next day delivery is also available for people who leave their Christmas shopping until the last minute.

Underwear ‘one of the most unpopular presents’

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

A new survey has revealed what people don’t want for Christmas from well-meaning relatives.

The research, carried out by Australian-based Galaxy Research, found that socks, underwear and slippers rank among the gifts that people often get, but do not necessarily want in their stockings.

In addition, although 69 per cent of people said they thought they are good at buying presents, 72 per cent of people get at least one gift they don’t like every year.

Rather cruelly, grandparents were ranked as the worst gift-buyers, while mums and dads didn’t fare much better.

Meanwhile, 56 per cent of people said they wouldn’t hesitate to re-gift their unwanted presents to other unsuspecting people during the course of next year.

The lack of enthusiasm for underwear gifts could be because people do not think about what the recipient would like before buying the present.

Lingerieplease recommends that people on the lookout for presents, most likely women’s partners, should not just look for bras and knickers.

Instead, it suggests, there are plenty of babydolls, camisole sets, corsets and other lingerie items that may be more popular.

Anyone struggling with underwear gifts could check out the Mens’ Lingerie Help guide on lingerieplease.co.uk.
