Posh becomes Armani’s underwear darling

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Victoria Beckham is currently appearing in her underwear on posters all over the world.

The former Spice Girl was announced as the female face of the fashion house’s underwear in October and the first photographs have been eagerly anticipated.

In the first releases for the spring and summer collection, Victoria, who has previously said that she looks “bloody awful” naked, is pictured in a black bra with matching knickers and high heels.

The shots are very stylish and sultry and Giorgio Armani said he is sure Victoria’s presence will generate much excitement.

“I chose Victoria Beckham to launch our new global Emporio Armani Women’s Underwear campaign because she is a stylish and intriguing woman,” he added.

David has already been the male representative of Armani underwear for more than two seasons.

He caused a media furore in summer 2008, when a giant poster of him in his underpants appeared on the side of a Macy’s in San Francisco and he then appeared in Union Square to sign autographs for fans.

Anyone who is feeling the credit crunch a little too much to afford Armani underwear may wish to pay a visit to lingerieplease.co.uk for some lookalike pieces that won’t break the bank.

JoBro: Come back with our pants!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Pop stars these days have to put up with a lot when they are thrust into the limelight; people wanting photographs, endless television interviews – and having their underwear stolen.

At least that’s what the Jonas Brothers have discovered. The American trio recently noticed that pairs of pants had been disappearing from their dressing rooms after gigs, but put it down to a joke from their crew.

However, the thefts didn’t stop and now it’s got serious, with ransom notes and everything.

According to reports form the National Enquirer, the boys have received notes saying: “Your undies are safe with us … the Undie Snatchers!”

As a security measure – and presumably to stop them from having to spend all their hard-earned royalties on pants – the group have put in measures to ensure that any guests going through the dressing rooms area are accompanied by a member of their staff.

JoBro aren’t having a very good time of it when it comes to underwear – last month we reported how an overexcited fan had thrown a bra at Joe as he tried to perform the band’s hit This is Me.

Anyone who has experienced the annoyance of having their pants stolen could visit lingerieplease.co.uk to stock back up.

Think about your underwear, website urges

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Although it may have been the last thing on your mind as you struggle to get back into the swing of work after Christmas and amid the January blues, one website has urged us ladies to give some thought to wearing the best underwear for each outfit when we get dressed each day.

Female First suggests a number of different kinds of lingerie which can eliminate problems such as visible straps and poor support and said that wearing the right bra or knickers can really make a difference to how an outfit looks.

Firstly, the multiway is highlighted as one bra everyone should have thanks to its versatility, even offering support under racer back items and halternecks

Secondly, the much-neglected sports bra is also put forward for those women who overlook it in favour of an old one from the bottom of the underwear drawer, or worse, none at all.

Last, but definitely not least, is shape and support pants which the website names as “the holy grail of underwear”.

“Great for getting rid of your lumps and bumps, this season’s bodycon dress will look great with these magic pants underneath,” it adds.

Anyone short of any of these items should check out lingerieplease.co.uk. The site has shapeware by Trinny and Susannah, plenty of multiway bras and even the brand new invisible knickers to eliminate VPL.

Forget the diet, just buy a good bra!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Those fed up with their diet already may be interested to know that they could drop a dress size simply by getting a new bra.

Georgia Henney, who manages a lingerie store in London, said that making sure you are wearing the right size bra could make clothes fit better, as well as making you look more toned by adding definition to the different sections of the body.

“If your boobs are uplifted from your tummy, then that’s bound to give you shape which in turn will make you look slimmer and feel better about yourself,” she told the Liverpool Echo.

Amy Fletcher, who had a fitting and discovered that she had been wearing a C cup for ten years when she is in fact an E cup, said she was stunned at the effect a new bra had on how her body looked.

We reported earlier this month how Alice Wyllie of the Scotsman gained a diploma in braology in a bid to get women more aware of how important a good fit is when it comes to lingerie.

According to a poll carried out by the British Chiropractic Association, 77 per cent of women are walking around in the wrong size bra.

Norfolk celebrates ye olde underwear

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

A town in Norfolk is to showcase 18th century underwear in order to celebrate the life of a staymaker who once lived there.

Diss United Reformed Church will hold an exhibition of period underwear to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Thomas Paine, who made corsets (known as being a staymaker in the olden days).

Underwear expert (how do you become one of those, I wonder?) Ian Chipperfield will be hosting talks on the aforementioned undergarments on January 24th, with visitors welcome at any time to have a look and probably a laugh at the bloomers our ancestors would have had to wear.

Staymakers became known as corsetmakers in 1851 after the Great Exhibition, thanks to the French naming them Hygienic Corsets instead.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world of underwear, eyebrows were raised on metro links across America at the weekend when groups of people participated in No Pants Day, an event organised by Improv Everywhere.

The group aims to “cause scenes of chaos and joy in public places”. Given the fact that this involved commuters sitting semi-naked on trains while other people had to share their carriages, we imagine the emphasis would have been on chaos, not joy.

Any opportunity to get undressed and into expensive underwear…

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Shocking new discovery for this week: Celebrities like drawing attention to themselves by posing in their underwear – who knew?

This time, it’s Pixie Geldof getting in on the act by posing in a corset and lacy knickers for a posh lingerie brand, just months after her sister Peaches did exactly the same thing.

Styled as the ‘sweet rosebud’, Pixie sulks into the camera looking very reminiscent of her late mother, Paula Yates, while Peaches’ look was more gothic in style.

The younger Geldof girl seems to be doing her best to catch up with her sister’s wild image, having been pictured falling out of various nightclubs in recent months.

Meanwhile, Peaches is in America amid constant rumours that her whirlwind marriage to Max Drummey is on the rocks.

However, for sheer exhibitionism, the Geldofs’ stunts don’t even come close to that of Abbey Clancey last year.

Peter Crouch’s squeeze walked up and down Hollywood’s walk of fame dressed only in expensive lingerie in a bid to launch her career in the US, a film of which is still doing the rounds on YouTube.

Paparazzi followed her up and down before she put a bathrobe back on, although it is not clear if they all knew who she actually was.

Henry’s ex splashes out on new underwear

Friday, January 9th, 2009

The former wife of French footballer Thierry Henry has been spotted (pardon the pun) out and about in London buying polka dot underwear.

In pictures published in the Daily Mail, Claire Merry, who divorced Henry in 2007 and received £8 million in the process, can be seen browsing around in the luxury lingerie store in London, choosing the spotty bra among others before coming out laden with carrier bags.

The model, who met Henry while filming the famous Renault va-va-voom ads, had already spent some of her settlement on surgically enhanced breasts, so she clearly needed somewhere to put them.

Although many women treat themselves to a confidence boosting shopping spree after a breakup, we bet that the majority aren’t lucky enough to have Ms Merry’s bank balance to take with them.

Caitlin Gray of College News recently said that you can update your underwear and start feeling confident and sexy by purchasing a few simple pieces.

These include a showstopper to glorify your best assets, a piece to satisfy the man in your life and a set to simply wear under your clothes as a confidence booster.

Luxury lingerie sets are available from both Gossard and Charnos which may fit these requirements – check out lingerieplease.co.uk to investigate further.

Lineker’s Danielle dazzles in leopard bikini

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Football pundit Gary Lineker was left dazzled on his holidays to Dubai this week as his fiancee Danielle Bux slipped into a skimpy leopard print bikini to lounge on the beach.

The couple were pictured kissing and canoodling by the Daily Mail as they soaked up the sunshine in the emirate city, which has become a popular destination for those in the football industry of late.

However, it is no surprise that Bux already had a good body for underwear – she is a lingerie model for a top brand.

Lineker divorced his wife Michelle in 2006 after 20 years of marriage. He later met Bux and they got engaged in September last year.

The pair are said to be considering a quiet wedding with family and friends, rather than a high-profile affair at Lineker’s holiday home in Barbados.

Bux also appeared to be right on trend when it comes to what’s hot in the world of lingerie, too.

In December, Dalbir Bains from Boudoir London told the Indian newspaper Daily News and Analysis that graphic floral patterns and animal prints will be big this season.

Jewel colours like purple, blue and red, as well as embellishments like sequins were also tipped to be trendy for underwear in 2009.
