People in Loughborough are chopping their budgets when it comes to eating out and going to the pub – and are instead spending their money on lingerie.

The Loughborough Times points out that sales of racy underwear are “going from strength to strength” as people seek to spend fun times together without having to break the bank.

Charlotte Emerson-Edstrom, who owns an underwear shop in the town, said that she has noticed an upwards trend since December, with the most popular items being things that both men and women can enjoy, such as basques.

A former US basketball Hall of Fame player has been sentenced to spend ten days in pink underwear in order to think about a crime he recently committed.

Charles Barkeley was caught driving under the influence of alcohol on New Year’s Eve and it has been revealed this week that he will be sent to Arizona’s notorious Tent City jail for atonement.

The prison is run by Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in the west”, who makes his convicts sleep in tents wearing only pink underwear.

They are also fed on sandwiches costing 20 cents a day less than the food spent on feeding the jail’s guard dogs.

A serial thief of women’s underwear has finally been collared in Japan after an eight-year crime spree.

Takao Sudo, 43, was apprehended after being spotted stealing four pairs of underwear from a washing line in Utsunomiya City.

However, when police accompanied him back to the home he shares with his mum and dad, they were in for a surprise.

After a search, they found more than 1,600 pairs of knickers and bras in his room, which he admitted to stealing over a period of eight years.

He was found to be running a website called Underwear Collector, which provided an internet log of his villainous escapades.

Police have now seized the lingerie, which filled 30 large cardboard boxes.
