Enough underwear, Paul Daniels, please!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Dear oh dear. While earlier in 2009, Paul Daniels was publishing underwear pics of Debbie McGee in a bid to convince us that she is as hot as Madonna, it seems he now has his sights set on the Beckhams.

The magician and his wife have posed in a series of black and white photos for Closer magazine, which sees them spoof the Armani ads Victoria and David have both appeared in lately.

However, while Debbie does indeed look great, Paul may have been better keeping his clothes on – the briefs don’t look half as good on 70-year-old bottom as they did on Mr Beckham.

Still, at least he didn’t choose to recreate the infamous reclining pose that led to speculation on whether David had stuffed his footy socks down there.

Debbie wore a black and white polka dot bra with frilly detail, as well as a black wig to resemble La Beckham.

She may also have inadvertently revealed the key to the saucy pics in the accompanying interview, insisting: “One of the secrets to our marriage is that we make each other laugh every day.”

Well if these photos don’t, Debbie, we’re not sure what will…

True Scots ordered to wear underwear

Monday, February 16th, 2009

At least it will solve the age-old question of whether Scots wear underwear beneath their kilts.

It has been revealed by the Scotsman newspaper that a number of kilt-hire firms are now putting clauses into their hire terms that request the wearers don underwear at all times.

Several prestigious companies, including Geoffrey (Tailor) Kiltmakers and Marchbrae Clothing, have put the underwear rules up in their shops, as well as on official forms, to stop people bringing the garments back in a less than satisfactory state.

Gary Wilson, manager of Marchbrae Clothing, said he would always wear underwear beneath his kilt anyway and that the rules are only putting into force what most companies encourage as a matter of hyhgiene.

“You don’t know where it has been beforehand,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, in other underwear news, the Texas TV station KRISTV.com has revealed that a number of romantic men proposed to their girlfriends this Valentine’s Day after hiding the ring for up to several months.

A popular place included their underwear drawer, or, in one case, an underwear drawer belonging to his father.

One place the lady in question was guaranteed never to venture, we hope.

Lingerie – the perfect antidote to the V-Day crunch

Friday, February 13th, 2009

If you’re single, February 14th may be a day to dread, as loved up couples suddenly appear from everywhere.

However, research from Abbey Banking suggests that many people who are in a relationship may be dreading it too, albeit for different reasons.

According to the firm, 39 per cent of would-be cupids will be spending less this V-Day as they try to avoid the stretch on their finances.

Five million people said they will cook their loved one a romantic meal at home instead of eating out in expensive restaurants.

However, one way to avoid splashing out while still having fun is to opt for lingerie.

This will be relatively inexpensive and will allow people to spend some quality time together, rather than having to queue up for food with several thousand other couples.

Sarah Peters, analyst at Verdict, said in an article for the Retail Bulletin that she agrees.

“Valentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity for couples to take some time out and treat a partner to some glamorous new underwear,” she commented, adding that the internet is a perfect option for those who may be too embarrassed to enter a lingerie store.

Indeed, the Times of Malta states that all V-Day gifts should either be soft toys, lingerie, roses or truffles.

Russell Brand gives Helen Mirren his underwear

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Russell Brand has revealed that he recently gave Dame Helen Mirren a rather unusual gift while on the set of their new film – his dirty underwear.

The motormouth comedian said afterwards that he did not know what possessed him to make the strange gesture, but that it seemed a good idea at the time.

Brand and Mirren are currently filming an adaptation of The Tempest by William Shakespeare, in which they play Trinculo and Prospero respectively.

He said that he was running late one day and had to change his underwear in his on-set dressing room before quickly running out again.

However, his path was crossed by Mirren, whom he has admitted to having a bit of a crush on before.

Brand explained: “That’s when I heard my voice saying: ‘Would you like these?”

“She took them and said ‘Thank you’. Why? Because she was being polite – because she’s a Dame.”

Mirren is unlikely to be offended by Brand’s sort of humour – she is renowned for being something of a saucepot herself and joked that she fancies Brand back when she heard about his attraction.

We wouldn’t advise giving your crush your own dirty underwear this Valentine’ Day, gentlemen. Instead, buy her her own pair from lingerieplease.co.uk.

Underwear goes on the inside, Danielle

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Serial WAG Danielle Lloyd seems to have experienced some confusion before she left the house yesterday evening – or maybe she was just overexcited at the prospect of seeing JLS play.

Either way, she cut a slightly odd figure as she was photographed by the Daily Mail outside Faces nightclub.

The glamour model wore a black leotard and tights – but with a pair of black sequinned knickers over the top.

She attracted plenty of attention, but the consensus was that Lloyd looked more completely gaga than Lady GaGa.

A similar look was attempted by Katie Price way back in October, when she wore a black leotard with fishnets and knickers over the top.

A number of brands offer fancy knickers as sported by Lloyd and Price, including Gossard and Wonderbra – although most firms probably expect you to wear them inside your clothes.

Lloyd is making headlines this week after announcing that she has written an autobiography telling all about her footballing exes.

The Daily Star reports that this includes a section detailing how Jermaine Defoe likes to wear bras on his head and do naked handstands in the bedroom.

However, there is unlikely to be any new material, as Lloyd has now sworn off dating footballers.

Men: Employ stealth tactics for Valentine’s lingerie

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Men worried about what kind and what size of lingerie to purchase for their partners in time for February 14th have been offered some tips by experts in the field in Australia.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Lin Windram and Jasmine Hickman, who both own lingerie outlets in Melbourne, encouraged the use of stealth tactics in order not to spoil the surprise, but still get the right size and style.

“One guy came in with his girlfriend’s wet bra in his backpack. He’d just taken it off the washing line so he’d have the correct size,” Ms Windram commented.

Failing this, Ms Hickman said, guys should sneak a look at the size of the bra their partner has just taken off before going to bed, making sure to look at the brand since size varies between different companies.

“We suggest choosing something classic and timeless. Black is always good. Or black with a bit of ivory, oyster or pink trimming,” concluded Ms Hickman.

Lingerieplease.co.uk has a number of stylish pieces in stock, including the black polka-dot Desire bra from Gossard, as well as the Lavish Plunge bra which has an amazing racer style back made from intricate antique lace and satin.

Skip the meal and splash out on lingerie, experts suggest

Monday, February 9th, 2009

As February 14th rapidly approaches, couples should pay attention to their underwear instead of paying over-inflated restaurant prices.

This is the advice of Dr Ruth Westheimer, an American therapist, who wrote in the Chicago Tribune that people could simply eat their dinner at a cheaper outlet, then use the money they have saved on lingerie to spice up their life in the bedroom.

Rebecca Apsan, who dressed Sarah Jessica Parker et al in lingerie for Sex and the City, agreed.

“Beautiful lingerie puts a smile on your face and on the face of the one you love. Life is too short not to have a good time,” she remarked.

The lingerie guru also pointed out that nice underwear need not break the bank, since many affordable items that still look great are now available.

Embellished bras and boy shorts are “still hot”, Ms Aspan said.

Indeed, Gossard and Wonderbra both make boy shorts that come in a range of colours for those who prefer the styles to briefs or thongs. They are also credit crunch friendly, coming in at under £10 – check out lingerieplease.co.uk, where next day delivery is also available.

Manx couples in the mood for love – and lingerie

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Romantic people in the Isle of Man have really been organised this year in terms of getting ready for Valentine’s Day, according to local sources.

Isle of Man Today reported having spoken to a number of vendors and the majority said they had seen a flurry of interest surrounding lingerie for February 14th, perhaps due to the fact that there is only a week to go.

Linda Shepherd, who owns a lingerie shop in Tynwald Mills, said that both men and women alike have been making more purchases – men in order to have something nice to give their partner and women so that they look their best when going out for the evening.

However, she added that well-meaning men don’t always get it right.

“Most men come in and buy red but we tend to find women come in and change it,” she laughed.

Indeed, the Telegraph recently recommended that people should take care with colour, as red may be a hue that many women wouldn’t normally wear.

It also suggested that men do not buy anything with tummy control.

Meanwhile, BreastTalk.co.uk states that people on the lookout for lingerie as a gift, particularly women’s partners, should not just look for bras and knickers.

Instead, it points out that there are plenty of babydolls, camisole sets, corsets and other lingerie items that may be more popular.

Alba: Never mind exercise, use shapewear!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Jessica Alba has made some refreshingly candid remarks about how she got her body back after the birth of her first child – and mercifully, it didn’t involve three hours a day with a personal trainer.

Instead of making the rest of us seethe by claiming that the weight fell off as she walked around picking up bits of Lego, Alba told Elle magazine that she resorted to much more realistic tactics – shapewear.

“I wore a girdle. [My friend] told me to put an elastic band around my waist – any kind of band or girdle works,” the 28-year-old, who gave birth last June, said.

She admitted that she was forced to try exercise shortly after the birth as she had a calendar photoshoot coming up, but that she found it an ordeal and gave up as soon as she could.

“I cried. And I haven’t worked out since,” she added.

Anyone in need of some shapewear for a special occasion will be pleased to know that there is plenty on lingerieplease.co.uk, including the range from fashion gurus Trinny and Susannah.

There are also the world-renowned Spanx pants, which will slim your thighs, tummy and rear for a smooth, seamless look while not having leg bands that cut off your circulation.

Bras for the larger ladies…

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

If you’ve been struggling to find a good bra that fits well, then think yourself lucky you don’t weigh in at 1,500 pounds and have udders.

This is the dilemma facing cows belonging to farmers in the far east of Russia, where it is now so cold that the animals are at risk from getting frozen udders.

With temperatures dropping to 50 degrees below freezing, the cows are now getting furry bras to protect their best assets from the ice and snow.

The bras are lined with rabbit fur and have three straps – they need one extra than us because of the tail, local resident Natalia Semyenova explained to the news agency Ria-Novosti.

What a shame they didn’t choose cow-print bras for the productive ladies – or would that have been too udder-ly silly?

We’re not sure if insulated bras exist for humans currently struggling with the cold – however, staying on the theme of animal prints, Discover Mademoiselle makes a Spice bra that features a dark-coloured leopard print.

The straps are adorned with red ribbon and the sides are fashioned from a semi sheer fabric.

Check out lingerieplease.co.uk for a look. The site also does next day delivery for those who need their underwear in a hurry.
