Lingerie Care – Our Top Tips
Thursday, August 6th, 2009
I am sure many women will agree that although we know we should probably gently hand wash our delicate underwear with great care…. we just don’t have the time! We don’t have time for the taps to run. We don’t have time to let our undies soak and we don’t have the patients to ‘lather up’ our bras! We use the washing machine because it is our time friendly little helper. Using your washing machine doesn’t have to be such a sin. Follow these simple yet effective tips that enable you to use your machine and still have lovely underwear!
Don’t Fear Your Lingerie Laundry…
1 ) Read the label – The simplest of thing can save your knickers in an instant. Don’t throw those ’40 degree wash’ favourites in on a 90!
2 ) Separate your colours – We all know this doesn’t just relate to lingerie but don’t forget this, it’s especially important if you want to keep your whites ‘white’.
3 ) Hook your bra’s up – Before washing hook your bra back together. This will prevent snags that may occur otherwise. Leave them hooked up until you next wear them, if you don’t they will only pose a threat to other bra’s in your draw!
4 ) Put items in a net lingerie bag – Or use a pillow case if you don’t have one handy. This will prevent hooks on your underwear snagging on the metal inside of the machine and protects your delicates from forceful hits caused by rushing water.
5 ) Don’t mix with other items – Including other items in your wash may mean you end up with flint on your lingerie that is difficult to remove. Wash these separately.
6 ) Never tumble dry – Now this is one machine that should not be used. Tumble drying ruins the elastic in any garment and underwear is full of the stuff! For best results simply dry flat.
7 ) Squeeze me tease me – If you do have a burst of energy or some free time on a Sunday afternoon and decide to hand wash your lingerie, prevent creases by squeezing the excess water out rather than wringing them dry.
8 ) Dry between towels – A further tip for drying whether machine or hand washed. When drying flat, place between two towels. This will soak up excess water and speed up drying without causing damage.
9 ) Line your draws with tissue paper – Use white tissue paper to line your draws (never used coloured as it may rub off onto light coloured garments) Letting materials touch the inside of your draws could cause snagging or even mean you get small splinters in your underwear, very uncomfortable!
10 ) Separate your draws – Finishing with another simple top tip, don’t mix your bras with your knickers, tights or stocking. Those hooks and eyes (that should now be hooked together and safe but you were lazy and didn’t follow tip No. 3) will snag and cause tiny holes in your other delicates.
I hope you have found these tips useful, even if you already do some of the above. If not then don’t despair, you can find some great new lingerie now and start following this guide as soon as it arrives!
